Why I make Clothes in the UK
I design, natural dye and make the first samples in my studio in West Wales.
Working to reduce our carbon footprint, I make clothing that is people and planet caring.
Visiting producers regularly builds positive brand relationships also helps to ensure transparency for fair wages and good working environments. UK production means shorter distances, which ensures minimum transportation and lower carbon emissions by avoiding unnecessary air travel.
Designing and launching one garment at a time, steered by colour, texture, quality, comfort and functionality, I spend time testing the product to create the highest quality possible. Holding ethics and sustainability at SARAH POLAND's core, a system of pre-order, made-to-order and limited edition garments, means that stock isn't held (ending up with excess which isn’t required), ensuring is no over production.
Taking care over what is made helps to keep the price down for you too.
SARAH POLAND features GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and OEKO-TEX100 certified natural fibre fabrics, alongside other sustainable eco conscious fabrics. Being very specific about colour contrasts (yes, colour nerd) I source undyed fabric and dye to specification using GOTS certified and water based dye processes (btw I am also a nerd about functional design detail). I am working towards all fabrics being certified organic and always looking to source the best.
I also promise to never use virgin plastic and minimise recycled plastic use. Zips for example, will be custom colour ordered using Natulon from recycled PET bottles and other post-consumer waste. Afterall, we still have the chronic issue of ocean plastic.
All of this is for my peace of mind but importantly yours too, so you can trust that the products that you buy from me are both people and planet caring, a responsibility which lies with us all.
