This is a four colour stone and plate lithograph made in Aberystwyth.

This print was included in an exciting print portfolio Collaborations : Aberystwyth Paper Press Print,  compiling 30 artists associated with Paul Croft Master Lithographer T.M.P. trained at the Tamarind Institute. Artists included are Wuon Gean Ho, Edwina Ellis, Paul Croft, Ruth Jen Evans, and Marcelle Hanselar.

The portfolio was shown at the Hong Kong Graphic Art Fiesta a major annual international 2 month long printmaking exhibition and has since been acquired for the archive of the Hong Kong Arts Centre. Many print media were included – lithography, etching and aquatint, mezzotint, woodcut, linocut and monoprint.

Woodland Bathing was also part of The Intimacy Of Liminal Spaces , a solo exhibition at Belgrave St. Ives, Cornwall.

Artist Statement

This print is part of a series which was made after I spent some time living off-grid in an eighty-acre Welsh oak woodland.

The woodland bath is to be found at the bottom of the valley where the oak stand tall and the beech magnificent. From the north running river we fill the bath and collect wood to light a fire underneath the cast iron bath. 

It is a beautiful setting; trees towering, river babbling,  steam rising, birdsong or if at night, stars twinkling. The Milkyway wondrously sweeps over the clearing up the hill. It is truly Romantic, immersed as one is, beholden to and a part of nature. 

I am interested in differences of rhythm, tempo and repetition, and how they produce irregularity in marks, layers; also colours and their inherent instability.

Moving into the poetic realm, it is the the spirit of nature and the poetry of this immersive experience that I seek to convey in my work.
