Why I make natural dyed Clothing in the UK

SARAH POLAND IS AN ARTISAN NATURAL DYE, ART + FASHION DESIGN STUDIO BASED IN WEST WALES, UK.

At the SARAH POLAND studio in West Wales, I design, natural-dye, and craft the first studio samples by hand. All natural dyeing is done in-house, ensuring full control over the process and quality from the very beginning.

The clothing is forged within the UK, either in-house or alongside a dynamic, female-led manufacturing team in London, ensuring every garment embodies a meticulous and rebellious spirit. Keeping production onshore ensures we meet the highest quality standards and ethics and maintain complete control over every step.

By regularly visiting our producers, we foster positive relationships and uphold transparency, ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions. UK based production also reduces transportation distances, minimising our carbon footprint and avoiding unnecessary air travel.

Each garment is a standalone statement, meticulously crafted and launched with deliberate attention to colour, texture, quality, comfort, and functionality. I dedicate time to rigorous testing to ensure every piece meets the highest standards.

Driven by design, ethics and sustainability, SARAH POLAND defies overproduction through limited-edition releases, limited ready to wear and made-to-order practice, aligning with our commitment to conscious consumption.

We don’t make excess. No stockrooms overflowing with unsold pieces. Just what’s needed, made for you. This also ensures fair pricing without compromise.

Garments are constructed from GOTS and OEKO-TEX 100 certified natural fibres, alongside other sustainably sourced materials, reflecting a relentless pursuit of eco-conscious fashion. I’m meticulous about colour contrasts (yes, I’m a colour geek!) and source undyed fabrics to dye them to precise specifications using GOTS certified, water-based natural dye processes. I’m equally passionate about functional design details and am constantly striving to source the very best materials, with the goal of using entirely to certified organic fabrics and and achieving full organic certification for SARAH POLAND.

I pledge to never use virgin plastic and to minimise the use of recycled plastic wherever possible. For example, zips are custom-dyed using Natulon, made from recycled PET bottles and other post-consumer waste—because the problem of ocean plastic is one we can’t ignore.

This unwavering commitment ensures that every SARAH POLAND product stands as a testament to caring for both people and the planet. Because fashion should do better—not just talk about it.
